Rio Car Beta Release 08-February-2002 Version 2.00-beta11 Copyright (c) SONICblue, Inc. 2002 * Notes This is a Rio Car beta release. BY DEFINITION, BETA SOFTWARE MAY NOT PERFORM AS ADVERTISED. It may not be stable. It may eat your music and spoil your day in any number of ways. Please do not install this release unless you understand these important points. * General Please submit bugs to carbugs@riohome.com - preferably after reading the BBS (http://empeg.comms.net) to check that the bug has not already been discussed. Note that 2.00-beta8 to 2.00-beta10 were internal releases. Their notes have been rolled into this release note. * Installation Download either the consumer or developer images and emplode (or emptool) from the empeg-car upgrades site. You should install the new emplode or emptool before installing this release. If you fail to do so your empeg-car unit may not function and it will be necessary to apply the upgrade again using the correct version of empegUpgrade or upgclient. We strongly recommend completely de-installing the previous emplode before installing the new one, which installs into a different location. Connect your computer to your empeg car using the supplied serial cable. Switch off your player at the wall or unplug the IEC cable from the brick power supply. The upgrade can be installed by serial only. Run the Upgrade Wizard and either enter or browse for the upgrade file. Click Next and select the serial port that your unit is connected to. Click Next again. When instructed to do so by the upgrade program re-apply power to your player by switching it on at the wall or connecting the IEC cable and brick power supply. If you have an all-in-one power supply then switch it on at the wall if possible or plug into the wall. The upgrade should then be applied. If it fails, try again. * What's New Since 2.00-beta7 - Player Support has been added for Microsoft WMA format audio files. DRM encrypted files are not supported, and it is known that some very low bitrate files do not playback correctly. - The RDS "TA" (Traffic Announce) feature has been implemented. It can be switched on and off from the Radio menu. When enabled, TA will cause the radio station to change (and the unit to switch to Radio mode if it was in Player or Aux mode) when a local station transmits a traffic broadcast. This is dependent on the currently tuned station supporting the feature (e.g. BBC Radio 1 will trigger TA for regional BBC stations). When the broadcast has finished the unit will return to the previous setting. This feature is widely available within Europe, but almost never utilised within the USA. Mk.2 & Mk.2A owners note: the powered antenna line will always be active while TA is switched on, so that the tuner can scan for the appropriate RDS information. - Implemented tuner AF feature (RDS Alternate Frequency). The tuner will retune to an alternate frequency (if available) when signal strength of currently tuned station becomes too weak. Switch on/off via Radio menu. - Implemented tuner PTY feature (RDS Programme TYpe). Player flashes any change in programme type on the bottom of the Radio Full Screen info mode. - Implemented tuner mode indicators: "TP" means the currently tuned station carries travel announcements "TA" normal means that player will switch to radio from normal/aux if a travel announcement is made on either the currently tuned station (see "TP" indicator) or via another station. "TA" dimmed means TA mode is on but the currently tuned station doesn't carry travel announcement or transmits information about those that do. "TA" missing means TA mode is off. "AF" normal means that the player has other frequencies available for the currently tuned station. "AF" dimmed if AF mode on but alternate freqs not available. "AF" missing means AF mode is off. - Automatic standby has been implemented. Press and hold the standard 'Power Off' menu item and be presented with a brand new menu: Now - Turns off now After this track - Turns off after the currently playing track At end of playlist - Turns off at end of playlist Cancel imminent standby - Only appears if you've scheduled a standby event To be added: Timed standby. - The visuals menu has been restructured adding another layer between the current structure and the main menu. The format is now as follows: by Type - The old menu by Name - Entire list of visuals Favourites - Listed if you have them defined Auto Change - Automatic visual selection on track change or on a timer Select Mode - How visuals are selected (sequentially or at random) In order to set a timeout value press and hold the 'On Timeout' menu option and use the left/right or rotary control to alter it. Note that everything is persisted over a power cycle, and that everything is channel dependent except the timeout which is a global value. - Press & Hold of the Search button now goes straight to a Title Search. - Stereo Bleed has been implemented. Certain early stereo tracks (e.g. ones by the Beatles) are recorded with most or all instruments panned to the extreme left or the extreme right. This type of sound can be disturbing on headphones and some speaker systems. Stereo bleed works by treating such tracks as pairs of uncorrelated mono signals, and synthesising a new stereo image in which one signal is located centre left and the other centre right. This means that each channel of the resulting signal is made up from both channels of the input signal, in different proportions, with different delays and filtering. The result is a stereo effect more consistent with modern stereo recordings. To use the feature, check "stereo bleed" in the tune properties dialog in Emplode for tracks requiring stereo bleed and synchronise. - Fixed: First 'q' doesn't exit the player (#1678) Fixed: Volume ramp-up doesn't always happen.
